An MIT graduate, Fauzi began his career at a Citibank and then moved over to Standard Chartered where he became their Senior Economist.

Fauzi Ichsan is Chairman of state-owned Indonesia Financial Group, Indonesia’s largest non-bank financial conglomerate with 10 subsidiaries that operate in the insurance industry, capital market (investment bank, asset management and venture capitalist) and office real estate. As Chairman of IFG he supervised the resolution of troubled state-owned insurance companies, including Jiwasraya and Jasindo, as well as strategic merger and acquisition deals. In the private sector, he is Independent Director at Unilever Indonesia, Manulife Asset Management Indonesia, AKR Corporindo (a fuels and petrochemical distribution company that also manages Indonesia’s only combined industrial estate-sea port special economic zone) and Minamas Plantations, Indonesian subsidiary of Malaysia-based Sime Darby Group. He is also Senior Advisor to Kearney, the US-based management consultant firm.

During 2014-2020, Fauzi was CEO of Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation, where he helped draft Indonesia’s Financial safety Net Law and initiated major organizational transformation in IDIC, which included developing resolution methods for failing banks, including purchase and assumption transactions and bridge bank creation. While in IDIC he also oversaw the liquidation of 39 banks, oversaw local and international court cases related to failed bank resolutions, oversaw the inter-connection of IT systems at Bank Indonesia, Financial Services Authority and IDIC, as well as getting elected as Executive Council Member, representing Indonesia, at International Association of Deposit Insurers, Basel, Switzerland.

Fauzi spent most of his professional career as a banker at Standard Chartered Bank (2001-14), as Managing Director, Senior Economist and Head of Research and occasionally acting CEO. He started his banking career at Citibank, in Jakarta and Singapore (1995-98), as economist and fixed income trader during the Asian Financial Crisis. He began his career as Research Analyst at Harvard Institute for International Development, an advisory team to Indonesia’s Minister of Finance, 1991-93.

Fauzi obtained his Master Degree in Development Studies in 1995 from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, US, and his Bachelor Degree in Economics in 1991 from London School of Economics, University of London, UK. He is Patron of several charity foundations and, since 2017, Chairman of LSE Alumni Society in Indonesia.
