Indonesia Delays Implementation of Halal Certification

On October 21, 2026 Indonesia postponed the implementation of mandatory Halal labelling requirements until October 2028. The requirement for labelling denoting Halal status first came forth in the 2014 Halal Product Certification Law, but its implementation has undergone successive postponements. Due to take full effect in October 2024, former President Joko Widodo postponed implementation for two years, and now President Prabowo Subianto has issued another such delay.

The two-year delay applies to: imported products, food-and-beverage items, goods from small-and-medium enterprises (SMEs), and personal care products. A three-year delay, until October 2029, applies to over-the-counter medicine. A six-year delay, until 2034, applies to prescription drugs. (Reformasi Weekly)
