preventIn 1998 AICC raised over $1 million to help keep children in school during the worst finanical crisis in Indonesia’s history. The steep drop in the value of Indonesia’s currency –from 2400 to 15,000 rupiah to the dollar– caused food and energy prices to soar. Families could not afford school fees. The funds AICC members contributed were distributed to leading relief organizations UNICEF and CARE where they were primarily used for work-for-food programs.
